Analysis of movie posters

 

 

In both posters its shows that its a comedy the Fonts are bold to make it stand out, there ages are older The lighting in the main image on the poster is well lit so it is very easy to see what is going on. Usually a horror film poster tends to use a darker house style as this gives the poster that scary and mysterious feel to it and draws the target audience in by making them try and work out what is actually going on. The use of this sort of lighting on this poster could connote the normal side of the character and contrasts with the evil and rather disturbing hand trying to escape from the woman’s mouth in the image. This relates to the sell line which reads “Darkness lives inside” and is a good way of drawing the audience in as it will make them ask a lot of questions. The background with white and bold title to make the poster title stand out.   For the Film Sourcing poster the from the tag line ” i laughed so hard i peed a little” this is a comment from someone this shows that the movie is amusing.

 

This genre of the these movie posters is horror as the tag line shows straight away that there will be violence and killing. i can instantly tell that it will include a murder investigation, conforming to the horror conventions. The young girl seems innocent and helplessly scared , she is easily recognised as a victim with the hand covering her mouth and her petrified facial expression.There is a hand covering the girls mouth, this connotates she  is being kept quite from being attacked.The “M” in the title “SCREAM” has been adapted to have a point , as this represents a sharp object such as a knife. This foreshadows death and evil in the movie. This could be seen as phallic symbol, showing the power of the movie. The poster of the Grudge is in the centre right next to the image as it stands out that the colour of the font is bright red, against the bright background as he red represents danger. The black background  fits in well with the horror genre as black an be associated with the dark or fear. It also blends with the hair in the key image which creates an impact making it mysterious. The main image of the persons face is close up, which makes it creepy and claustrophobic atmosphere as the person is looking directly at you. The face is covered mostly by hair but partly tell us who the person is. 

 

These movie posters are science-fiction. The colours brown , gold, and white in the film poster are used to replicate the style of the movie seeing the movie is set millions of years ago, or perhaps this is based in the future. Although the colours in the poster are dark and gloomy, these dark colours may indicate something bad leaving the viewers wanting to know what. The dark colours also be foreshadowing what will happen. The main characters heroic and serious to convey the journey with the ring and the struggle they might face the long way. Furthermore in The Lord of The Rings poster at the bottom of the main characters there are a group of people in black who look superior to the main characters where they look aggressive as these could be the enemies fighting  there  All the people i see on this have a major role to play in the movie. Its a very plain poster with the title at the bottom which helps to keep the viewers  eyes on the picture instead of lots of writing which can be distracting. The writing is in the style of a gold ring telling which connotes to the audience the importance of the ring by golds value; both of the title fonts are medieval . From what that characters are wearing that the genre of the movie is fantasy, also the sword in his hand indicates that it is a fantasy.

 These movie poster is a drama action movie a self portrait of a man and a woman, meaning its indicated on one person and its about there life story. Her facial expression looks serious; the tag lines says “love at any cost” this connotes that she is ruthless and will do anything to save her relationship. The gold writing suggests wealth  They are dressed in formal dark clothing. The mans facial is not as serious he has a neutral face expression. the title is his real name “Will Smith” because he is famous and people are likely to watch the movie. is white on the title and the others are red.

Watching the speech  I felt motivated by Steve Jobs and for the task we were told to draw a poster explaining and highlighting the good traits of him, he spoke about the key to success and how things and people will always be an obstacles.

MUSEUM TRIP

 A Gentleman’s Room

This photographs of  a huge 3D building called the gentlemans room of a room which was built in 1392-1910.
B) I have chosen this piece of work as it stood out from all the other objects in the other objects in the room. Also i found it who the building looks in human size, and to see a room tha is designed differently which is called a Sarangbang where a man studied greeted guests, dined and slept. The most creative things i see this building are how much detail the creators have put into the house to make it look realistic in 1392
In my perspective, the meaning of this house is to shows people today how Japan men lived and to give an idea what their houses looked like. Furthermore this house means peace its traditional, positivity an purity especially  the Sarangbang because its clean tidy. This building makes me feel calm the quality of tranquil as it peaceful affect to it.
This object could inspire my work to create a 3D object.

The Oxus Treasure

These are pieces the Oxus Treasure , is one of the largest collections of Achaemenid gold and silver objects the 5th and 4th centuries BC but i chose this because it reflects me as a person as i love jewellery and it enhances my beauty. The most original thing i see about this jelelly is the colour is gold and as in today we have gold jewellery. The Oxus Treasure represents displays a usefulness in society because of creative skills, to become an expression of wealth and success, a quality of social status . the richer the family, the more ornate the jewellery.
These objects make me feel fancy confident, it reflects my inner beauty.
These objects could inspires my work to create something rich toned.
Stone Staircase. This is asculpture of a staircase figures of people climbing this staircase carrying gifts, including braclets, drinking bowls and animal skin as this sculpture was created in 1892. I chose this sculpture of a staircase because this reminds me of myself as im a helpful person, and generous to people. The most creative thing about this sculpture is the amount of detail the creator crafted to make it realistic. In my perspective the meaning of this sculpture are the people going up the staircase is serving there queen or king gifts. It makes me feel mysterious and suspicious wanting to know why their going up stairs in a row carrying gifts and other stuff. This sculpture could inspire my own work to create a sculpture of a person.

Painting

This is a painting of an Egyptian person, emphasising that the person is shield and guarded by the protective clothing the person is wearing. I chose this painting because it reflects me because I mostly feel safe in my surrounding. In addition the picture is bright and colourful as it shows positivity an that reflects me as a person my personality is bubbly, loud, and confident. The most creative thing about this painting is the detail of Egyptian costume, and the contrast of the brown and blue tone colours.This painting conveys that this person is safe and the contrast of the brown and blue tone colours. This painting could inspire my work to move bright tone in my work.

This is drawing of a pharaoh created in 1530. I have chosen this drawing as the shading is really detailed to make it look 3D which really stood out to me. Also i love to draw especially in mono tone colours. The most creative thing about this drawing is the shading is good quality and creator chose carefully where to shade to make it look almost realistic. This drawing means a ruler in accident Egypt who has power. This drawing makes me feel interested calm. This piece of drawing inspires my work to use techniques such as really detailed shading to make it look 3D.

 

       Research of Photographers

• Cristina Nunez  

This photographer was born in 1962 in Spain, she started taking self-portraits in 1988 as a form of self-therapy, to overcome low self-esteem and a heroin addiction in her teenage. Up to the early 2000s, she produced photography books in which she addressed social questions through the portrait. On the margins of this public body of work, she continued taking self-portraits, which “became Someone to Love” ; since 2005 this has been the focus of her work, as well as of “The Self-Portrait Experience” workshops that she has been conducting around the world, and has workshops for people to trigger the creative process from their emotions, in companies, universities, academes, schools, galleries, prisons, and  mental health centres. In 2013 she started her ongoing net-art project La Vie en Rose, on video, performance and web platform, with the real goal of finding her perfect partner. Nuñez considers herself a social activist, using her own life to stimulate the viewer to mirror himself in her work. The photographer has exhibitions worldwide.

• Vivian Maier

Vivian Maier was an American Street Photographer. She was born in New York on February 1, 1926 but passed away 21st April 2001 . She was an extremely private, secretive and unique woman . She worked as a nanny in the northern suburbs of Chicago for the better part of her life. A private taking interest in other people’s lives. She started taking street pictures of people  even before  was actually making money, where her style is taking photos of other people in black and white.  She was a loner and a recluse in her own terms. She never liked being asked too many questions and always revealed as little about herself as possible. The children she took care of as a nanny mostly describe her as a very strict nanny , firm and a little eccentric. “Miss Maier” is what she asked most of them to call her. She worked as a nanny mostly all her life. No one knew that she was a photographer of such calibre until she died and her life’s work was accidentally unearthed from a storage locker in Chicago; in fact, many people close to her didn’t even know that she took photos.

• Francesca Woodman 

Francesca Stern Woodman born in April 3rd 1958  was an American photographer best known for her black and white pictures featuring either herself or female models, however died by the attempt of suicide on January 19th 1981. Many of her photographs show women, naked or clothed, blurred with the movement of the person, where she photographed herself obsessively but often she appears as a blur of movement or a half-hidden figure, someone constantly trying to escape or hide.

What has changed about me overtime is my voice, my growth, my style of clothing.I also went to an all-girls school which means I have not really spent any time with the opposite sex. When I first attended college this was something I was quite nervous about, however, I have now made lots of new male friends and have realised that we are not so different.

Why do identities change over time?

Its because people grow, their character changes. When you spend time with new people you get new ideas and your perspective gets broader. Sometimes this can be in a negative way, for example, someone who has been influenced into taking drugs through peer pressure might change because of this.

If I’m with my family I would act my normal self in a sensible way, but if I’m with my friends I would act my normal self but I would be louder and more outspoken. As I have also mentioned previously, changing from same-sex school to a mixed college has given me a wider variety of people to be friends with.

People do have multiple personalities with different people if a person is around a certain people such as there family or work collages, in front of their boss, or there friends they wouldnt have the same personality.

My style of clothing is fashionable, i change up my style like if i want to be in my comfort zone i will dress in something in light material, and nothing to tight, to feel like im at home. Sometimes i dress sporty, or if i can be bothered i make an effort to dress up fancy which if often.

I used different video transitions and effects in between each footage to make my montage look realistic, also

I chose to capture my footage outside because the lighting inside was not very good and you could not see the subject clearly. Although I found the lighting much better outside, I also found there was a lot of traffic noise when filming so I  used a microphone to record the subject speaking. next time I will record more footage inside and outside our college and use it in my identity montage video.

I chose these posters as they relate to my ideas of the poster im going  to create as my poster is based on horror, bloody, deathly theme. On my poster i want to create an image with myself in it, in my bath tub in fake blood and some round the sides of the bath and name the title with a meaning of death. What i like about the posters is they have a sinister look they show what part of the is about by the image of the person, i like the contrast as the  background is dark giving it that creepy affect, also i like the font of the title. Whereas i dont like on some of the posters they dont have enough detail such as the writing.

Final product i created 

I created this poster in my bath tub, where i filled up the bath with water and added food red colouring to it and around the bathtub aswel, to create a bloody effect. My face expression is in that position as it makes me look like ive drowned to death. I created this film poster because i wanted to create a different theme such as horror because its more exciting and eye catching. However i had such difficulty with Photoshop not knowing how to operate it, where i haven’t finished the poster by adding the tag lines, the credits, and other effects. This poster expresses my emotions that sometimes feel negative.

For this task is is based on Andy Warhol I used my self portrait . I used Photoshop to do so.  I used tools such as: the paint bucket tool, lasso tool, filter gallery and effects such as blend modes. I added a black stroke to create my own effect and add a twist. However I fond it very difficult as its the first time I’ve used it.

Caribbean food is really authentic to me as its apart of my culture where  i come from there Jamaica and Montserrat the food is divine. When I eat Caribbean food  I imagine my self in a breathtaking scenery on a sandy beach among the glistening ocean looking at the vibrant plants and coconut tree, with the heart joyful background music. Its authentic to me because when we my family eat big Caribbean meals it brings the family together. I love to cook and will learn more Caribbean recipes in the future.

This font is a horror, its quite bold and at the bottom of the letters it has that fade drop down the poster that gives that appearance that the letters are bleeding  making it creepy. The colour of the font is white to make it stand out from the dark background also it represents spirits.

 

This title is from a comedy as it is written in capitalized bold letters. The word “little” that part of the title is red, whereas the rest of the title is black as it emphasizes on the word little.

 

 

The font is in very hot bright pink. Pink stands for romance and passion, which highlights that this is going to be a theme within the movie. This font is portrayed as sexy, playful, fun colour, and heart warming.

 

 

This is a science fiction font as the letter A has that affect of a shooting star. The title is in white as it represents space , light where as the background is blue turquoise as this represents space as the movie could be situated in space.

In the capital El Salvador, San Salvador, the capital city is plagued with gang violence. The most dangerous gangs are the MS13 and 18th street gang as these gangs are the biggest and most violent gangs in the world; there are 30,000 gangs in this country. In 1992 was when the civil was stopped the peace has been shattered by the was between the gangs. People are fighting for there lives to not get murdered 40,000 paramilitary are on the streets, kids hiding from being threatened; pressured into joining gangs. Children as young as 10 to 12 are joining the gangs . Gangs pressure children into this because if the young people under 16 or 18 get caught unfortunately they cant arrest them because its they law meaning they’ll get away with it. Gangs also encourage young people aged 10 and 12 to join because when they start young they’ll have this mindset where they think its not wrong to kill, and starting from a young age they’ll become more efficient of the weapons killing people   The country and Capital averages out eleven lives a day.s

There is so much violence in this country because people like the gang culture and they do it because they think its cool and they were born to kill and that they think its the right way to earn a living. In San Salvador 11 murders a day in a population in a population smaller than London which is shocking and deadly.

Sadly the murder rate of women has doubled in the last 10 years . In the film women have been raped, tied up in string, having the gangs who attacked them, there gang name calved into there chest. As a woman i feel traumatised what i saw,  because women are already being taken advantage of to see that its depressing.

I don’t know anyone in a gang because I don’t associate my self with those type of people.

Murderous can be decreased by the ending of corruption, by making laws stricter making it harder to get weapons, get a leader make it a better place.

For this task we were told to do experiment with the cameras. I chose to take photographs of things i thought would look good on my blog. Firstly i learned how to operate the cameras and then I went around the college to find things to photograph. Here are some pictures that I took using different compositions. This was a task given to me to help me improve my photography skills when it comes to taking pictures, so with practice, I will become a better photographer.

I used a video from Youtube on photo compositions to help me with this task. There were different types of photo compositions e.g. Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, Diagonals & Symmetry.
