24 hour challenge film & evaluation
Throughout the last month our group of 6 have been working on a horror short film based on a 24 hour challenge. I feel that the film could of had a better outcome due to the fact that we were unprepared to film and didn’t have any organisation at all. We also did not communicate well as a group at the beginning which ended up with us having to delay our filming. But then we focused and took responsibility of our roles in the film working together we improved dramatically.
My role was the backstage operator partly holding the boom-pole microphone, and the camera player. I did find it difficult holding the boom-pole because it was trick not to get it in the scene.
We thought of a fantastic idea for the film and created the script ready within a week. . As we had decided to film it in college however, we were at an advantage as we had a short amount of time to film; by the cause of the setting it was situated in the collage several people got in the way walking past the camera, therefore we had to stop and start again, also rooms were taken but luckily we were fortunate to find one to utilize. We also managed to find actors and as a result of they didn’t need to leave college to film to our advantage, there were plenty of people willing to act in our film. The actors themselves were a great help too as they were very passionate about their work and added their own ideas to the story as we filmed.
Having started doing this filming got a lot better but the sound is too quiet when listening to our film because the sound boom pole wasn’t close enough. What we could of done to edit the film was to do a voice over the person talking, which would of made a huge difference. As we kept changing our ideas throughout filming however, it took a lot longer than it should have taken us to film. This meant that instead of filming it in the space of 2 days, it took us 2 weeks and so therefore we kept having to take the equipment home. Not only was this a hassle, but it also meant that we wouldn’t be able to film if someone wasn’t in or accidentally left the equipment at home. Despite all this, we did eventually finish the filming even if it wasn’t to the greatest standard, of that being the edits was very confusing where the film just cuts out unexpectedly for unknow reasons meaning several minutes of our film is gone. The most important part that being me playing the character of a demon.
In conclusion therefore it was a bit of an edgy start but at least we completed the film. Next time I might just be a good idea to chose people to work with who are diligent. But I did like this idea of the concept of the movie as it intriguing.
