Unit 7 Investigating interactive production and technology

Creating an Immersive Video

What is 360 technology and how it has improved and where it is going?

The new 360-degree virtual reality, also know as immersive videos or spherical videos are video recordings where a view in every direction is recorded at the same time, a where we can see it like in the present moment. This outstanding product is like a sphere shape camera or a collection of cameras.

This product has come such a long way from back in 2000, the technology had not progressed. The headset products was poor and equipment was unreliable aswell as expensive. Many found using VR for more than a few minutes physically nauseating, which had a huge affect on its revenue. But now today, feeling the presence of actually being part of an artificially created place any adventure is basically now possible.

360 virtual reality products are increasing as loads of technology brands are creating there own version 360-degree video and VR  for innovative and attention-grabbing advertising and marketing campaign, therefore huge on marketing selling it under £600 which is cheaper than the 2D cameras and more intriguing. A popular one is called Oculus go.

Who has used 360 videos and what for?

Thomson Holidays- displays beautiful Iceland’s northern lights, to intrigue travellers to book a vacation here.

Samsung- Shows viewers on a snowboarding adventure in like presence, not only promoting the product of their of their Gear VR launch, but it shows the potential of their product by offering an immersive experience.

BMW- presenting the experience in the racing car the fast drive

National Geographic: for TV entertainment, information.

Universal Studios: film their attractions.

How immersive are the different ways it has been used?

360-degree VR can be used for many purposes other than entertainment. The virtual reality technology can be used in most kinds of training that involve a physical environment, including pilot and driver training (as well as actual piloting or driving), surgery, and undersea and space exploration via remote-control robots.

Many brands are turning to immersive video — mainly 360-degree video and VR — for innovative and attention-grabbing advertising and marketing campaign

How can you use it in different ways to tell your own narrative?

I could use it to make a film or for gaming content. Also to make it feel real so when people watch it it feels like there physically experiencing it too.

  • To change the effect click on effect the transition, glass wipe then turn then increase the number to 12.0%. To create the illusion of the image melting.
  • Next go on effect colour correction black and white
  • Then effect, distort, mirror then increase it to 71.0 where this is to create the image a  number 8 illusion of it going up.

The first 360 I created was quite difficult process as the first one I down loaded was 360 but of a still photo type therefore. the people weren’t moving. Then I did it again and started getting u sed to the tools. In addition the 1st and 2nd video came out to a good standard or my first experience. However I went further and the 3rd one I created was  a weird one as I wasn’t a ball but I like it because it looks unique.

360 ideas

Opinions from peers to set the 360 camera task

Oxford street

  • Busy with people of any time in the day which isn’t a good idea, but people are likely to interact with the camera such as waving at it or something which would look intresting in the video
  • Loads of nice shops

Leicester square 20190314_150449

  • The view of Soho would be interesting
  • Great lighting

  • Less packed in some areas

Planning for 36o

Our initial plan is for out group to go and film the 360 digicam in King cross in place we will film the humans and the surrounding environment to create it at a specific time of the of the day because its easier to do the task during college, also the date which is vital so our group is well prepared.
We had the idea of filming in a vast area where we can walk about with out stopping and so the equipment is likely more to be safe, due to the lack of people. As a result we decided to film in the nice vicinity of Kings Cross where the lake is to film whats happening in the present moment. In addition to the distant areas we live in this is an easier place to do it.

Final project 360

As a result I think the 360 digicam task planned out really well. The path was clear so we managed to walk about freely. Then to make the video more alive I added some affects in to make it look amazing like were walking not only on a 3D world, but a surreal world.

Evaluation

The filming was easy to handle because it was a spacious area. Also, this video can inspire people to visit this nice clean area if they want to live here even because it’s advertised in the video. We did have trouble playing the video but manage to get a good amount of time play, so it not oo short. What I did well is I expanded on this video exploring and having fun on creating the effects of a variety of colors.

However, the problem before that was trying to apply the videos onto Premier Pro as once they were on that software they would then take a long time to render the amount of editing was on there. To make that faster I worked on my other units to pass time.  If I were to improve on my project I would add background music to the video, I think this would make the immersive video come across more professional and more entertaining. Also, It could have been better by setting a story behind it to make it even more engaging. Even though it looks cool the camera could have been lower to see the vicinity as well as the higher objects.

I’m glad I’ve tried out a new technology because this is another way I could film in my media projects.
